This Egyptian laboratory study examined the antibacterial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic properties of Moringa oleifera leaf extracts. Researchers tested different extract preparations against various bacterial strains and measured antioxidant activity using standard laboratory methods. The study also analyzed the chemical composition of the extracts to identify active compounds. Results showed that moringa leaf extracts demonstrated strong antibacterial activity against both standard laboratory bacterial strains and foodborne pathogens. The extracts also exhibited significant antioxidant potential in laboratory tests. Chemical analysis using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) identified quercetin as the predominant bioactive compound responsible for the observed effects. The research suggests that moringa leaves contain compounds with potential antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. However, this was purely laboratory-based research using cell cultures and bacterial samples, so the findings cannot be directly applied to human health outcomes. The study provides scientific evidence for the traditional use of moringa leaves but requires further research in animal models and human clinical trials to determine real-world applications and safety profiles.
