Unknown authors (2025). Unveiling the Miracle Tree: Therapeutic Potential of Moringa oleifera in Chronic Disease Management and Beyond. Biomedicines (MDPI).

This systematic review examines the therapeutic potential of Moringa oleifera, commonly known as the 'miracle tree,' in managing chronic diseases. The authors analyzed multiple studies investigating moringa's effects on diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and immune disorders. The review found that moringa demonstrates significant bioactive properties due to its rich phytochemical profile, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and glucosinolates. Studies showed promising results for blood glucose regulation, with moringa extracts reducing fasting glucose levels and improving insulin sensitivity in diabetic models. Cardiovascular benefits included lipid profile improvements, blood pressure reduction, and anti-inflammatory effects. Anti-cancer properties were observed through apoptosis induction and cell cycle arrest in various cancer cell lines. Immunomodulatory effects included enhanced immune response and reduced inflammatory markers. The plant's antioxidant capacity was consistently high across studies, contributing to its protective effects against oxidative stress-related diseases. Traditional uses align well with scientific findings, supporting moringa's role in managing metabolic disorders, inflammation, and immune dysfunction. The review emphasizes moringa's potential as a functional food and therapeutic agent, though standardization of extracts and dosing protocols remains challenging.
