Sarah J. Johnson, Michael R. Thompson, Lisa K. Anderson et al. (2025). Acceptability of moringa leaf powder among healthy adults in the United States. Heliyon.

This short-term study examined how well healthy American adults tolerated different amounts of moringa leaf powder over one week. Thirty participants tried three different doses (2.4g, 4.8g, and 7.2g daily) to assess acceptability and side effects. Research suggests that while people generally stuck to taking the supplement as directed, many experienced digestive issues like bloating, gas, and loose stools, especially at higher doses. However, these symptoms typically resolved quickly. The study found that skin carotenoid levels increased, indicating absorption of beneficial plant compounds. A major challenge was taste - participants frequently noted the bitter flavor as unpleasant. Mixing the powder into meals rather than taking it alone improved how well people tolerated it. This research provides important practical information for anyone considering moringa supplementation, showing that while the supplement appears to be absorbed by the body, taste and digestive tolerance may limit its use, particularly at higher doses.
